Kiki Bertens v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
Their only previous match came at the St. Petersburg Open of 2020 and Bertens had beaten Kudermetova in straight sets in that one.

Bertens Finally Wins a Match
It might have come against a player ranked 901st in the world but Bertens would be glad to have finally registered a win in 2021.
Having entered the tournament on the back of three successive defeats – the only three matches she’d played – Bertens’ confidence would have taken some beating. And when she dropped serve twice after having broken her opponent only a game earlier, it looked like the Dutchwoman was in for a fight.
However, from leading 5-4 but on serve, Bertens won seven games in a row to complete a 6-4, 6-0 victory and move into the second round.
Bertens didn’t have the best results on clay last season with successive opening defeats in Rome and Strasbourg, before she made the fourth round at the French Open but here’s a player who has won five titles on this surface in her career.
Once she gets her rhythm going, Bertens will be a tough opponent.

Kudermetova Continues Her Clay Run
Kudermetova has played 11 matches on clay this season and won 10 of them. That includes a title win at the Charleston Open and a semifinal appearance at the Istanbul Open where she lost to Elise Mertens – her only defeat on dirt this year.
And the latest of those victories came in this competition against Elena Vesnina, a fellow Russian looking to make a comeback into the women’s singles circuit.
Kudermetova was off to a flying start with a break in each of the second and fourth games of the opening set before Vesnina won a game. And while the world number 28 faced some resistance towards the end of the second set, it was a matter of too little, too late.
Two early breaks in the second set as well made it 4-0 for Kudermetova. Vesnina got herself her first break-point of the set late in the set and broke back once but Kudermetova served it out to clinch the match.
A tougher test awaits Kudermetova but given her own form, she would fancy her chances against a player returning back to top flight tennis.
Bertens v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova is an obvious favourite here at 4/7 which we think is a decent money for a player who is in the kind of form she is in taking on a struggling opponent.
Tip: Kudermetova to win: 4/7 (bet365)
