Swiatek Begins Like She Never Left
It had been a while since Swiatek had played a match on clay. But when your last match on the surface had resulted in a Grand Slam title win, it’s easy to conclude Swiatek would have walked out in her opener here in Madrid with some confidence.
And that showed in her play as she demolished American Alison Riske in her opener, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Swiatek needed an hour and eight minutes, and broke her opponent five times in the match to complete the easy win. The Pole herself faced four break-points, but none of them at a crucial time and they were all easily saved.
The world number 17 had come into the tournament with back to back second round defeats in Dubai and Miami and will now hope she can thwart a third successive such occurrence in what is her first ever appearance at Madrid Open.

Siegemund Sends Out Fellow Qualifier
33-year-old Siegemund was once ranked 27th in the world but has fallen to 59th at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped her from gritting her way through some tough early round matches in tournaments this season.
Since losing her opener at the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year, Siegemund has made the third round at the Gippsland Trophy, and qualifying at Doha and stunning Elena Rybakina in the opener there.
She began her clay court journey this season with an opening win in Stuttgart over Mona Barthel before losing to Ash Barty, and then entered the main draw here with wins over Andrea Petkovic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
In the first round here, Siegemund was 6-4, 6-2 winner over Kateryna Kozlova in a match lasting an hour and 43 minutes after having fallen behind a break early in the opening set.
Down 3-4 in the opening set, Siegemund found a way to break her opponent twice, and then came back from 0-2 down in second set as well, to win six games in a row and claim her second round spot.
Swiatek v Siegemund Prediction and Tip
At 1/4, Swiatek is almost a very good bet, especially since it means she is 4/6 to win this in straight sets. Backing her for an easy win here.
Tip: Swiatek to win AND Under 19,5 games in the match: 5/4 (bet365)
