Jennifer Brady v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one. Ostapenko won their first match in 2017, which came on the clay courts of the Stuttgart Open (in the qualifiers) while Brady made 1-1 at the 2019 Dubai Open first round.

Brady Lives up to Billing against Venus
Venus Williams wasn’t much of a chance by the bookmakers in her opening round against Brady, starting out at 10/3. And while Venus did defy those odds at times, Brady’s consistency outshone her opponent’s with the world number 14 carving out a 6-2, 6-4 win and moving to round two.
Brady was off to a slow start, struggling to hold her serves in the first two games but what she did well was to break back immediately.
Two breaks apiece for both players took them to 2-2 before Brady continued to prove too good on the Venus’ serve, breaking her twice more and wrapping up the set.
It got slightly more difficult for her in the second set though. A long third game that saw Venus get six break-points, finished in her opponent’s favour and Brady then struggled to break back till the sixth game.
She missed another chance in the eighth game, staved off three break-points in the ninth before getting past the Venus serve in the 10th game to wrap up the encounter.
Brady now faces a clay-court specialist but one whose form has been difficult to predict over the years.

Ostapenko Quells Qualifier Hercog
Polona Hercog had lost in the second round of the qualifications but came through to the main draw as a lucky loser. Ostapenko, however, ensured there was going to be no way back for the Slovenian as she carved out an easy 6-3, 6-1 victory in their opening match.
Needing just over an hour to get there, Ostapenko benefitted from four breaks of serves while herself thwarting all the five chances her opponent got to break back.
It was Ostapenko’s better first serve percentage of points that helped the Latvian no end as she pocketed nearly three-fourths of them.
Ostapenko, who had earlier made the second round in Stuttgart as well, will face a tougher challenge from Brady but feel she has a chance against a player whose clay court record isn’t as sterling as otherwise.
Brady v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip
Interesting to note there’s not much to choose between these two players with both starting out at 10/11 odds. Our pick would be Brady for her confidence against a player who has been erratic with her form even on clay.
