Karatsev Transfers Form to Clay

It’s been the kind of season for Karatsev most would be proud of.

What has been even more sterling has been the manner in which the Russian has managed to transfer his form on hard court surfaces – which by itself was startling to say the least – to clay.

A semifinalist at the Australian Open earlier this season and then a title winner in Dubai where he defeated the likes of Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner and Dan Evans, Karatsev proceeded to make it to the final of the Belgrade Open where he went down to Matteo Berrettini.

More vitally, Karatsev stunned Novak Djokovic in a gritty three-setter in the semifinal to record the biggest win of his career, having earlier lost to the world number one at the Australian Open.

Can he now go deep in an ATP 1000 tournament on clay?

Humbert Would Want to Do Much Better

After the kind of results Humbert has had over the last three seasons, he would be disappointed with the way things have been this year.

The Frenchman was knocked out of Australian Open in the second round, and other than a quarterfinal in Montpellier and a semifinal at Marseille, he hasn’t won back to back matches this season.

Not too fond of clay either, Humbert’s two forays into tournaments on this surface have led to one win from three matches. Interestingly, that win against Marco Cecchinato was bit of a surprise given Humbert had entered the encounter at 6/4 odds but managed a three-set victory.

He will find it darn difficult to get something similar against a player of the calibre of Karatsev whose record this year has been nothing short of marvellous. Can he push the Russian though?

Karatsev v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Not only is Karatsev an overwhelming favourite he is also odds on to score a straight-set win here. Backing the Russian to do that.
