Anastasija Sevastova v Paula Badosa Head to Head

There has been one previous match between these two players, with Badosa beating Sevastova in the first round at Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year.

Qualifier Sevastova Goes Past Konta

Sevastova had shown signs of sparkle on court at the Miami Open earlier this year with a Halep-withdrawal-aided run lasting till the quarterfinals in that competition for the Latvian.

She did not start off too well on clay, losing in the second round in Charleston to Caty McNally despite being a 1/4 favourite to win that encounter but things look to be getting better for her already.

The world number 54 has already come through the qualifiers here in Madrid with wins over Tsvetana Pironkova and Marta Kostyuk, defeated Ana Bogdan and then in her second round match, crushed the much-higher-ranked Johanna Konta in straight sets.

Sevastova won 6-3, 6-3 against Konta, with the match lasting an hour and 32 minutes. She broke Konta four times out of the 15 chances she got in the match, while saving eight of the nine break-points she herself faced.

And with her section of the draw cleared out because of Jil Teichmann’s elimination of Elina Svitolina, Sevastova will fancy a deeper run in this competition from here on. Can she overcome the clay-court specialist and wild-card entrant Badosa?

Badosa Overturns Strong Teichmann Start

As mentioned earlier, Teichmann had eliminated Svitolina in her opening round match, coming back from a set down. And Badosa repeated the same dose on to Teichmann, coming through 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to complete a second round win.

Badosa, who had earlier sent Barbora Krejcikova packing, got the first break of serve in the seventh game of the opening set but that started a string of four successive breaks which saw them through to 5-5.

Teichmann held on to her serve, and then broke the Spaniard in the 12th game to win the opening set.

Another three breaks of serves kick-started the second set but what looked like a topsy-turvy beginning, finished up with Badosa breaking her opponent three more times while holding her own serve.

And with the Swiss player struggling with her serves, Badosa took full toll with an early break in the third and then one more to finish the encounter in the eighth game.

Can she now push on with the same form against a player who has played four matches in five days? Badosa will be a lot fresher for sure.

Sevastova v Badosa Prediction and Tip

Badosa is 1/1 to win this and we think these are tempting odds given she has had to play just two matches before this while her opponent has featured in four in five days. Backing the Spaniard in this one.
