Pablo Carreno Busta v Federico Delbonis Head to Head
It’s a rivalry that began in 2008 and has gone on for 13 years, albeit with their last meeting having come in 2018 at the French Open. And overall, it’s 4-2 in favour of Delbonis and 3-2 on clay.
In their most recent outing in Roland-Garros three years ago, Carreno-Busta had needed four sets to get past his opponent.
In their only other match which came on the Futures circuit, Delbonis had won in straight sets.

Carreno Busta 9-2 on Clay This Year
Before coming into this season, Carreno Busta had a career win-loss of 85-74 on clay but that has turned around drastically this year with a 9-2 record in 2021 on red dirt.
Starting things off in Marbella, a new competition played this season, Carreno-Busta went on to convert his first round bye into a title win, the fifth of his career. It was also just the second one on clay for him.
That didn’t stop him from dishing out a couple of other solid performances, in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona. At the former, he made the third round but was edged out in a close three-setter by Casper Ruud before falling to Rafael Nadal in the semifinal of the latter.
He now faces an opponent who has had a wood over him and one who has played all but two of his matches on clay this season.

Delbonis Could Prove to be Tricky
Qualifying for this competition with back to back straight-set victories in the qualifying rounds, Delbonis will now hope he can emulate his previous best performance at the Madrid Masters. And what he’s done this season.
This includes a run to the semifinal at the Santiago Open and a quarterfinal round at the Belgrade Open just prior to this competition.
In fact he would think he missed out on a chance to go the distance in Serbia, as he fell to Taro Daniel in the quarterfinal after having won the first set.
Delbonis has some solid wins in the past too, having beaten Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka on clay.
Over more recent times, such results have been few and far between for the former world number 33 but the Argentine does pack a punch on this surface as can be seen from the fact he is 113-91 in career clay record and 26-70 elsewhere.
Carreno Busta v Delbonis Prediction and Tip
Carreno Busta is an obvious favourite at 2/7 but can he register an easy, straight-set win? Doubtful. Backing Delbonis to win a set here.
