John Millman v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
The pair have met once before, on the clay of Istanbul in 2018, Lajovic winning a second round match in straight sets.

Millman Not Known as a Clay Court Specialist
Millman, after many years on tour, finally ended his title drought at Nur-Sultan at the end of last year.
Clay though is his not his natural milieu, although he did win one tournament in the surface in his Challenger days, back in 2018.
Nevertheless, he can take some encouragement from his performances in Madrid last week, where he beat Hubert Hurkasz of Poland, the Miami winner in the first round, bravely saving six match points in the process.
In his next match, he took the first set against Dan Evans, the world 26. The Englishman fought back though, levelled the match, and then took the third set. Millman had his chances – he had four break points against the Evans’ serve in one game but could not convert any of them.

Can Lajovic Find His Form Again?
Lajovic reached the third round in Rome the last time he played here, although his purple patch had come a year earlier, in 2019, when he reached the final in Monte Carlo, losing eventually to Fabio Fognini, and then won his first, and, to date, only senior ATP title, in Croatia.
2021 began full of promise – his fourth round appearance at the Australian Open equalled his previous best performance in a Grand Slam.
However, since then results have been disappointing, especially on his preferred surface of clay, where his record so far in 2021 is played four, lost four.
He at least claimed a set off Dan Evans in the first round in Monte Carlo and Federico Delbonis in his home event in Belgrade. Since then, though, he has suffered straight set defeats to Mackenzie McDonald in Munich, and Denis Shapovalov, last week in Madrid.
Millman v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
Lajovic normally would start a clear favourite to win this match, given the surface, but he is not in good form. Millman showed last week in Madrid his fighting qualities, so the Serb will need to raise his game if he wants to progress to the second round.
