Karolina Pliskova v Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head

It’s 2-2 on head to head between Pliskova and Sevastova with their only clay court encounter coming in Madrid in 2017. Interestingly, Sevastova had won that one in straight sets.

Pliskova Hoping to Turn Things Around

It’s not been the kind of start to the season as Pliskova would have liked. Things on court hadn’t quite been going her way last season either but a change in the coaching setup was expected to turn things around for the Czech.

Unfortunately for Pliskova, as things stand it has been an underwhelming season so far. A win-loss record of 10-8 for a top-10 player, who not so long ago was the top-ranked player in the world reeks of struggles.

And struggle it has been with just a third round appearance at the Australian Open to show for her efforts.

Pliskova’s switch to clay hasn’t been quite dazzling either. At Stuttgart, Pliskova required three sets to win both her first two rounds before falling to Ash Barty in the quarterfinals. And she followed that up with a shock second round defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Madrid earlier this week.

The former world number one was going to play Venus Williams in her first round match here but once her opponent withdrew and Kiki Bertens opted out, she was bumped up to the second round. Can she start things off with a win?

Sevastova Stuns Teichmann

Neither player had much of a bookmaker’s advantage going into their first round match, but it was Sevastova who came through in the end as she defeated Jil Teichmann from a set down.

Sevastova defeated the in-form Swiss 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in nearly two hours to set up this meeting with the world number nine.

In a match that saw a total of 24 break-points, it was Sevastova who was broken twice in the first set, and once again in the second as her opponent attempted a comeback from being 2-0 but that was about it.

The Latvian player gained momentum from there on as she rattled off three breaks in a row to claim the second set and then one more at 2-2 in the third to complete the victory.

She had earlier made the third round at the Madrid Open as a qualifier and will look to emulate her best ever performance in Rome as well – which is again, a third round appearance. Can she shock the out of form Pliskova?

Pliskova v Sevastova Prediction and Tip

Bookmakers aren’t giving Pliskova too much of a chance here as she starts off 4/5 to win this and we will gladly take those odds given she is still winning her early round matches, especially against lower-ranked players.
