Serena Williams v Nadia Podoroska Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between the 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena and Argentina’s world number 44 Podoroska.

Four-Time Winner Williams to Resume after Australian Open
Serena’s ultimate quest at the moment is that 24th Grand Slam title but it has proved to be elusive so far since her return to tennis after having taken a break for the birth of her child. Among all her Grand Slam titles, she has found winning the French Open the most difficult, having won that title ‘only’ three times.
And that is also why this competition in Rome will prove to be vital in her tune-up for the competition at Roland-Garros. It will be Serena’s first competition on clay, and first since she was knocked out in the semifinal of the Australian Open by Naomi Osaka. It’s been nearly three months.
Since her return, Serena has played in a mere eight matches on clay spread over three seasons and won seven of them. The problem, therefore, hasn’t been her performances on dirt, it has been her inability to finish off tournaments without getting injured.
Already she has had to withdraw from three clay court competitions in as many years because of fitness-related concerns. She would love to go the distance here in Rome as she builds up as a genuine contender for that tournament.

Podoroska 7-7 for the Season
Podoroska shot to fame last season when the Argentine qualified for the French Open after winning three matches and then proceeded to cause a few upsets before getting herself a solid semifinal berth.
There were three ITF-level titles that she pocketed as well to go with some other solid performances in the season.
This year, however, things have not quite gone her way so far. Barring a quarterfinal appearance at the Yarra Valley Classic where she managed to get past Petra Kvitova, Podoroska hasn’t won successive matches at any of the competitions.
And while she got past Laura Siegemund in her opener here from being a set down, Podoroska will need to do a lot more to shock a player of the stature of Serena. Her only advantage will be Serena’s possible rustiness from being away for that long.
Serena v Podoroska Prediction and Tip
While Serena is 4/9 to win this we believe Podoroska might have a chance to sneak in at least set against the American.
Tip: Podoroska to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
