Barty in Some Form This Season

While Barty is a French Open winner from 2019, her form this year almost nearly trumps that one from two years ago. She has already won three titles, one short of what she had managed in 2019 and she was a runnerup at a fourth.

That silver medal prize came last Saturday when she went down fighting to Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Madrid Open.

What’s more, Barty’s record on clay has been second to none in recent times. She didn’t play any matches on red dirt last year after having finished the 2019 season on a seven-match winning streak thanks to the French Open triumph.

She has followed that up with a 11-2 record on it this year, making it 18 wins from her last 20 matches on a surface most find difficult to be consistent.

Can she now push on and dish out a performance to remember at the Italian Open, a competition where her best showing is a third round appearance.

Shvedova’s Comeback Hitting Roadblocks

Having played just one match last season after having missed 2018 and 2019, Shvedova is in her first full season since calling it quits in 2017. And things will take some more time to go as per plan.

On the hard court surfaces earlier this season, Shvedova’s only win had come in the first round of qualifiers at the WTA Doha where she then lost in the second round.

She switched over to clay in Charleston following another first round exit at the Miami Open and lost her opener to Misaki Doi. Another first round defeat followed in Madrid at the hands of Ons Jabeur which meant she had gone into her first round match here against Martina Trevisan as a distant second favourite.

And when Shvedova got bagelled in the first set, it looked like another match was going the same way as the previous ones. Except it did not, with Shvedova carving out back to back tie-breaker wins to shock her Italian opponent.

Barty will be a different kettle of fish though.

Barty v Shvedova Prediction and Tip

A straight-set win looks likely but can Barty live up to the -7.5 games handicap which is on offer? The one factor against Barty is the exhaustion from having played so much tennis and we might see some sizzle from her opponent before the fizzle.

Tip: Games Handicap Shvedova +7.5: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
