Roberto Bautista Agut v Cristain Garin Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between both players on the tour.

Agut Looking For Better Clay Returns Ahead of French Open
Roberto Bautista Agut has been one of the more consistent players on the tour in recent years, breaking into the top ten in 2019 with an all-time career high ranking of world number nine. Although the pandemic-shortened 2020 was not overly successful for the Spaniard and 2021 did not start too well for him either, Agut has had some good runs in recent tournaments.
A finalist at Montpellier and Doha, and a semi-finalist in Miami, Agut will be content with his hard court runs. Coming into the slower clay swing, Agut lost in the round of 16 at both Monte Carlo and Barcelona, just when he was getting into some sort of rhythm, against Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner. What will disappoint him more is an early loss last week in Madrid to big serving American John Isner who is no force on the clay, a match Agut was expected to win.
In his first round here, Agut looked strong and comfortable against American Tommy Paul as he prevailed in straight sets. The Spaniard will be aware that he needs to keep the level high for the rest of the week, given the quality of players and the stacked draw here in Rome, with the French Open just a little more than a fortnight away.

Garin Rueing Madrid Collapse
Cristain Garin from Chile grew up on clay and has won all his five ATP titles on the surface. 2021 did not start too well for the Chilean with opening round losses at Delray Beach and in Argentina. An impressive showing on the clay at his home tournament, the Chilean Open resulted in another title in the bag and would have hopefully set him up well for the season to follow.
However, he was not able to gain momentum in any of Miami, Monte Carlo, Barcelona or Estoril in particular losing his first match in three of the four venues and making the round of 16 at Monte Carlo only.
The Chilean started well last week at Madrid with wins against Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco and German Dominik Koepfer, followed by a confidence boosting win against world number two and reluctant clay courter Daniil Medvedev. Garin looked in great touch in his quarter-final against Italian Matteo Berrettini up a set and a break but caved in thereafter losing the deciding set to love, leaving a lot to be desired of his mental state with the French Open round the corner.
Garin put up a good all-round performance against Lloyd Harris here as he gears up for a good run this week.
Agut v Garin Prediction and Tip
Both players will be looking for a good run this week ahead of the French Open. A battle of grit awaits between two players with ample fire in the belly to play out a good fight. Expect a three-setter with the experienced Agut prevailing
