Garbine Muguruza v Bernarda Pera Head to Head
There have been no previous matches played between Muguruza and Pera before this one in Rome.

It was Muguruza’s first match on tour after more than a month and she proved yet again why she is one of the most feared opponents on the tour at the moment.
The Spaniard crushed Patricia Maria Tig in straight sets to advance to the second round in a little over an hour on Tuesday. Muguruza dropped just three games in her opponent’s opening drubbing.
Not all went Muguruza’s way as she lost her serve in the third game of the match having earlier broken Tig but from there on there was no looking back. She broke Tig two more times to pocket the first and then again in the opening game of the second.
Tig tried bit of a comeback with a set-levelling break in the fourth game but that was about the fight she could offer with Muguruza running away with the next four games to claim her second round berth in a competition she has never reached the final of.
Muguruza will now hope to do better than what she had done in Charleston last month where she had retired midway through her second round encounter.

Pera Form Could Test Spaniard
She is a qualifier alright but the 69th-ranked Pera isn’t playing like one at the moment. Ranked 69th in the world, Pera demolished both of her qualifying round opponents and then crushed her opening opposition to set up this meeting with Muguruza.
Having reached the second round of the Madrid Open last week, also as a qualifier, Pera crashed the hopes of fellow qualifier Tamara Zidansek in the first round here with a 6-3, 6-2 win. This followed back to back qualifier wins where she dropped seven and five games each.
These results will come as bit of a surprise to those following Pera’s season who was on a six-match losing streak coming into the Madrid Open qualifiers. Since then something seems to have changed and a switch seems to have been triggered as Pera’s shown a stark contrast in form.
While she went down to Belinda Bencic at Madrid and faces a stiff opposition here again in round two, a fighting performance can be expected.

Muguruza is surprisingly long-ish odds at 2/7 to win this and we are quite happy to back her to do that in straight sets with odds of 4/5 for that.
