Thompson Unimpressive On Clay
Jordan Thompson is not known for his clay-court prowess, but he has tasted success on the surface before. One of his seven Challenger titles was won on clay five years ago at the An-Ning Challenger.
This year, the Australian has found the transition to clay extremely hard. His best result of the season came at the Great Ocean Road Open where he reached the quarterfinals in the opening weeks of the tennis calendar.
However, since leaving Australia the 27-year-old has fared poorly on the Middle Eastern Swing, the North American hard courts and now on the European clay, registering a measly three main draw wins.
Thompson’s three wins in six tournaments is a shocking return considering his hard-court pedigree. And last week, he failed to get into the main draw of the Madrid Masters after losing in the first round of qualifying to Carlos Taberner.
Thompson’s only previous appearance in Geneva came in 2019, losing in the first round to Denis Kudla in three sets.

Andujar Still Remain a Threat on Clay
Pablo Andujar is very much at the tennis twilight, but he is a still force, albeit a stoppable one, on clay courts. At 35, he is one of the evergreen veterans who has played in each of the three last decades.
Having overcome a succession of career-ending injuries, it is a testament to his longevity and battling qualities that he has managed to compete at the top of the men’s game.
Andujar has won four matches this year, with three of those coming on his beloved clay. He reached the quarterfinals of Buenos Aires before losing to the eventual finalist Francisco Cerundolo. Last week he was beaten by Marcos Giron in the first round of the Madrid Masters, meaning his record since Buenos Aires reads, 1-5.
Thompson v Andujar Prediction and Tip
Despite Andujar’s longevity, he hasn’t met Roger Federer in his nearly 20-year career. But he has a huge opportunity to set a date against the Swiss maestro. We are backing the Spaniard to see off the Australian in a tight three-setter.
