Wang Qiang v Misaki Doi Head to Head

Their only match at the WTA level was played in 2012 in Taipei where Doi won in straight sets. Interestingly, these two have also played four other times on the ITF circuit and on every single occasion Doi has managed to defeat Qiang.

The only thing to consider here is their last match came in 2014.

Qiang Continues to Remain in Form Rut

For a player who was ranked 12th in the world not so long ago, Qiang continues to struggle with her form. Barring the odd win here and there, the Chinese player has endured 11 defeats this season and registered just four wins to go with them.

And when she lost to Amanda Anisimova in the first round at Rome earlier this week, it was her third time this season Qiang had suffered three successive defeats.

Unfortunately for her, Qiang’s losses have come against a host of players; their ranking hasn’t mattered too much. None of those 11 losses have been against a top-10 player either with Ana Konjuh, Karolina Muchova and Anisimova relegating her to losses on clay before this one.

She would know there are not quick fixes to a problem that began when she opted out of the second phase of the season last year. Now, with tournaments coming thick and fast, wonder if her chances of finding a solution get that much tougher.

Doi Fighting to Return to a Respectable Ranking

Ranked 82nd in the world, Doi would be hoping to get a few wins under her belt, looking for scalps of opponents who let up and given her those chances. Because otherwise, Doi also has had her struggles in recent times.

A winner of the Bastad Open in 2019 on clay, Doi has won just five of her 16 main draw matches this season with her last win coming at the Charleston Open early in April. She defeated Yaroslava Svhedova in the opener there.

Wins at the Phillip Island Trophy, Adelaide, Doha and Dubai were her only other match victories before her fall in fortunes.

And now while Doi faces another player facing a similar difficulty, the Japanese will know she will be in a contest.

Qiang v Doi Prediction and Tip

Qiang is the bookmaker’s favourite here at 3/5 but we are quite tempted by Doi’s 11/10 to win this and backing her to surprise her opponent.
