For someone who has already won two titles this season, Kasatkina was expected to zoom ahead on clay as well. That, unfortunately, hasn’t happened for the Russian as she looks to find her feet again in the lead-up to the French Open which begins later this month.

Her recent record on clay hasn’t been the best either with the world number 37 at 7-7 on win-loss over the last two seasons, not drilling deep enough in such confidence.

Hsieh Yet to Win a Main Draw Match on Clay
Hsieh is more known for her doubles play for most part of her career but this season she has tried to focus on singles, or at least she did till the Australian Open where she shocked the world to reach the quarterfinals of the season’s first Grand Slam.
That included wins over the likes of Bianca Andreescu and Marketa Vondrousova before she was laid low by Naomi Osaka in the last eight.
Unfortunately, since then, Hsieh hasn’t played too much. Featuring straightaway at the Madrid Open, Hsieh came through the qualifiers as a lucky loser before losing to Tamara Zidansek for the second time in a row.
And then featuring in the first qualifying round in Rome, Hsieh managed to win just two games in her defeat to Nao Hibino.
Against a player like Kasatkina, Hsieh would believe she has an outside chance given her opponent’s form but the Chinese Taipei player herself needs to shrug some of her rust off to get any kind of momentum.
