Rebecca Peterson v Nina Stojanovic Head to Head

The pair have met once before, in Nanchang China in 2019 on a hard court, Peterson winning in straight sets.

Peterson Playing Second Clay Court Event of the Year

Peterson has won two WTA titles, both on hard courts, winning back to back events in China in 2019, in Jiangxi and Tianjin. Clay is not her favourite surface, although she did win titles on it during her days on the junior tours.

However, since travelling to Australia at the start of the year, she has played comparatively little tennis.

There she lost in the first round of the Australian Open, but did much better in the follow-up event, the Phillip Island Trophy, getting to the quarter-finals before losing to Danielle Collins.

The Swede then took a month off before losing in the first round of the Miami Open, and then did not reappear until she entered a Challenger event on clay in Saint Malo, France, earlier this month, getting to the third round before losing to Varvara Gracheva of Russia.

Stojanovic’s Done Better in Doubles

Stojanovic’s main successes on the senior WTA tour have been in doubles’ events – she has been in four finals, winning one of them, the Baltic Open in Latvia in 2019, partnered by the Canadian Sharon Fichman.

That was a clay court event, and she won four tournaments on the surface in her junior tour days.

This year, by far her best result came in Miami, where she came through qualifying and reached the third round before losing to Naomi Osaka, her best ever performance in a WTA 1000 event.

Since then, she lost both her matches in the Fed Cup playing for Serbia against Canada, and, although she qualified for Madrid, she was knocked out in the first round by Annett Kontaveit of Estonia.

She then entered the same Challenger event in Saint Malo as Peterson, but, in her case, her interest ended at the second round stage, beaten by the Italian world 93 Jasmine Paolini in three sets.

Peterson v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

Although Stojanovic has home court advantage, Peterson will start as the favourite to win. She is the higher ranked player, more experienced and she won their previous encounter.
