The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 24-year-old Serb, and the Australian, who is four years older.

Serbian Wildcard Jorovic Playing Only Second Event of 2021

As a junior, Jorovic was once the top ranked player in the world, and was a finalist in both the doubles, and the girls’ singles at the French Open in 2014.

Although she has won 13 ITF events, she has never translated that form into the senior tour, although she did reach a career high singles ranking of 80, almost two years ago.

Since then though it has been a steady decline and she now finds herself outside the world top 200, reliant on wildcards to play in tournaments like this.

She has also had her fair share of injuries and this is only her second tournament of the year.

Her first came in  a Challenger event in Portugal in April, but she was beaten in the first round by the world 349 Maria Gutierrez Carrasco of Spain.

Tomljanovic Searching for Her Best Form

Tomljanovic has been in four WTA finals and lost all of them with one of those defeats coming at the Morocco Open in 2018 on clay, when she lost to Elise Mertens

Back then she was a top fifty player although her ranking has drifted since then after several years of inconsistent performances.

Certainly, her results in 2021 so far have been nothing to write home about, and only once has she been beyond the second round in any tournament – that was in Charleston, where she lost eventually to Sloane Stephens.

She then lost in the second round in the follow-up event in Charleston, and although she made it through qualifying in Madrid, was knocked out at the first time of asking by Elena Rybakina.

She did marginally better in Rome, again making it through qualifying and, this time, enjoying first round success, beating the former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova. However, she then lost to Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.

Jorovic v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Tomljanovic will start the odds-on favourite against the local wildcard who is ranked place 168 places below her in the world and is short of match practice, having played just one competitive match in 2021.

Tip: Tomljanovic to win in straight sets: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
