Kristina Mladenovic v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

The pair have met three times before, with all previous matches having been played on hard courts. Mladenovic leads their head to head series by two matches to one, having won in Moscow in 2016 and 2018, although it was Kalinskaya who triumphed in Washington two years ago.

Mladenovic Hoping to Convert Doubles Form into Singles

Mladenovic is warming up for her home Grand Slam in Paris in two weeks’ time, where she reached the quarter-finals in singles in 2017, and where she is the defending champion in the doubles with long-time partner Timea Babos.

Her win in that event last year was her second with Babos, having previously won it with Caroline Garcia, and the Franco-Hungarian duo have also won the Australian Open title twice.

She has recently regained her ranking as the number one doubles player in the world.

Singles-wise, Mladenovic has one WTA title to her name, the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy in 2017.

Her recent form on clay, though, has not been spectacular. She was knocked out in the first round in Charleston and then the second round in Istanbul.

Mladenovic was made to qualify in Madrid but then suffered another first round defeat, and, although she went one better in Rome, again after qualifying, she was beaten in the second round by Petra Martic.

Kalinskaya’s Best Results in 2021 Came on Hard Courts

Like Mladenovic, Kalinskaya has enjoyed greater success on the senior WTA tour in doubles rather than singles events – with regular partner Viktoria Kuzmova, she has been in three finals, winning the Prague Open in 2019.

They were runners-up in the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne earlier this year.

Singles-wise, she has yet to enjoy success on the main tour, although she does have seven ITF titles to her name, five of them in clay court tournaments.

Her best results in 2021, though, have come in hard court events.

In Monterrey, Kalinskaya came through qualifying and then made it to the third round before losing to the Swiss player Viktorija Golubic.

The following week she travelled to Miami and reached the third round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time, before losing to Garbine Muguruza.

Most recently she played in a  Challenger event in Saint Malo in France,, but had to withdraw from her second round match with Rebecca Peterson with an injury.

Mladenovic v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

This is a match between two women better known for their prowess in doubles rather than singles. Mladenovic, though, will begin the favourite, given that she is the higher ranked player and has the better head to head record, although this will be the first time they have played on clay.
