Lorenzo Musetti v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

There have been no previous occasions of Musetti and Bedene facing off in a competitive match before this match in Lyon.

Musetti Continues to Grow as a Player

Having shot to fame at the Acapulco Open earlier this year when he reached the semifinal there with wins over Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov, Musetti has continued to grow as a player even on clay.

The Italian did suffer a few second round losses in the tournaments leading up to this one but defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round and Sebastian Korda in the second should go a long way.

Both wins came in three sets, with Musetti breaking his opponent once in the first set and twice in the final set to carve out the victory. Korda did look like he had forged some sort of a comeback in the second set by breaking Musetti twice but in the end, the world number 88 came through 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Can he now get past a player who is ranked 55th in the world with a highest ranking of 41st in his career?

Bedene Usurps Goffin to Make Quarters

Bedene did not have a great previous season as he lurched to a 10-12 win-loss record in 2020. This year, he has been marginally better but has already registered back to back wins on four separate occasions including this one in Lyon.

This would be his sweetest performance though with Bedene winning against two top opponents.

The Slovenian started off with a straight-set win over Gilles Simon but more importantly carved out a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over the world number 13 David Goffin in the second round.

The match lasted an hour and 49 minutes, with Bedene breaking his opponent three times in the match while enduring two breaks of his own. Interestingly, he created 11 break-point opportunities while himself facing just four of them.

While it’s no surprise his opponent starts a favourite here, Bedene has the kind of momentum under his belt which could surprise a few.

Musetti v Bedene Prediction and Tip

Musetti is 8/13 to win this, but we do think Bedene could put up a fight here. That could lead to a longish first set.

Tip: Over 9.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
