Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jeremy Chardy Head To Head

Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head 2-1 but all their meetings have been on faster surfaces and this will be their first meeting on the slower clay.

Tsitsipas Biggest Contender After Nadal-Djokovic

22-year-old Stefanos Tsitipas leads the race to the ATP Tour Finals in Turin and this remains evidence for the consistent season he has had thus far.

Starting the year with consecutive wins at the ATP Cup and a semi-final showing at the Aussie Open (defeating Rafa Nadal en route), Tsitsipas continued his strong run despite missing out on titles.

While he will be disappointed at his loss to Alexander Zverev in the ATP 500 final at Acupulco and unexpected losses to Pierre Hugues Herbert (Marseille), and Hubert Hurkacz (Miami), he will be content with his run on clay thus far.

Coming to the slower dirt, the Greek won a first ever Masters 1000 title at Monte Carlo and was runner-up at the Barcelona ATP 500 where he had championship point against now 12-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Although his run hit a halt at Madrid (defeated by Casper Ruud) and at Rome (squandered multiple leads against Novak Djokovic), Tsitsipas was back to his winning ways last week at Lyon.

With strong convincing earlier round wins, he was pushed by the Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-finals but wrapped up his second title of the year convincingly. Coming to Roland Garros where he lost a close semi-final to Novak Djokovic in 2020, he will believe given his current form and his draw that he has a good shot at a deep run here this fortnight.

Good Year For Chardy Thus Far

French veteran Jeremy Chardy had a strong start to the 2021 season. Beginning the season in Antalya, Chardy reached the semifinals by beating higher-ranked Fabio Fognini and Jan-Lennard Struff on the way. He also reached the semifinals at the ATP 250 in Melbourne, defeating Marin Cilic, Gilles Simon and Taylor Fritz (all ranked higher than him) and getting a walkover against Stan Wawrinka.

Chardy’s impressive season continued at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, where he reached the last eight  as a qualifier, with wins over Ugo Humbert and David Goffin in the first two rounds. The run continued at the ATP 500 in Dubai where he made the final eight with wins against Albert Ramos-Vinalos, Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov.

The Frenchman has not managed to replicate that hard court form on clay, struggling to win two matches in a row thus far.

He lost in the second round at Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Estoril and then lost the opener in Madrid. Another second round loss this week at Belgrade has not bode too well for the clay warm-up and the Frenchman will know that the challenge at the second major of the year remains uphill for him.

Tsitsipas v Chardy Prediction and Tip

It has been a good season as such for the veteran Frenchman, but at the same time it has been an excellent season for the Greek, who has hit great form on clay as well.  Expect Tsitsipas to prevail in straight sets.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 3/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
