Anett Kontaveit v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

The Estonian leads Golubic 4-0 in the head-to-head tally. Their last meeting, however, came back in the 2016 WTA Guangzhou where Kontaveit won in three sets.

The duo have also found each other on the opposing side in the 2019 US Open Women’s Doubles. Golubic, then paired with Sara Sorribes Tormo, got a walkover into the fourth round.

Kontaveit Looking to Deliver a Big Performance

So far this season, Kontaveit has seen her fair share of ups and downs. Currently ranked World No. 31, the Estonian had a good start to the year when she reached the final of the WTA 500 event in Melbourne. However, the final was not played due to scheduling difficulties but Kontaveit looked primed to win her biggest trophy to date.

She followed that with a few average runs in the Middle-East Swing and the Miami Open; in both cases, she didn’t make it past the third round.

Shortly after the start of her clay season – a quarterfinal run in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix – Kontaveit parted ways with her long-time coach Nigel Sears and hired the services of her compatriot Ain Suurthal.

The duo went together in the Madrid Open where Kontaveit was beaten by Maria Sakkari in round two. Since then, she has taken time off the tour to recuperate and prepare for the French Open.

Golubic Training Hard at Lower Circuit

While Kontaveit skipped a few clay events off on account of exhaustion, the 28-year-old Golubic has been working hard albeit, in lower-tier tournaments. That may very well do the trick here in the French Open, seeing that the Swiss has recorded one of her best seasons to date in 2021.

Alternating between ITF and WTA events, Golubic boasts of a win-loss tally of 34-8.

She started the season with ITF final appearances in Fujairah and Grenoble (winning the title in the latter). Then, she reached back-to-back finals on the WTA Tour in Lyon and Monterrey, all the way as a qualifier. In both cases, she lost respectively to Clara Tauson and Leylah Fernandez.

Golubic started her clay-court preparations on a similar note by competing in the WTA 125K event in France where she won the title. Immediately after that, she reached the semifinal in another French event on the ITF circuit.

All in all, the 28-year-old has picked up five silverware already this season and is making great strides in the ranking too.

Kontaveit v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Viktorija Golubic has a very good chance here to level the playing field against Kontaveit and finally get one up against her Estonian adversary.

However, while she has the momentum, she may not have the experience of playing and winning in big tournaments – something that Kontaveit has plenty when compared.

This will be a very tight game, one that has all the makings of being a three-setter.
