Djokovic Eyes Grand Slam#19
World number one and 2016 French Open champion Novak Djokovic is in search of a second Roland Garros win and a 19th major over the next fortnight.
After being undefeated at the ATP Cup and registering a ninth Aussie Open title at the start of the season, the Serb skipped the rest of the first quarter of the year due to an abdominal tear he picked up during the Melbourne slam. Returning to the tour for the clay swing, it was an underwhelming couple of tournaments for the world number one in April.
Mid- week losses to Dan Evans in Monte Carlo and Aslan Karatsev in his home town of Belgrade were atypical for Djokovic and would not have been the ideal clay court preparation for the French Open.
Choosing to skip the Madrid Masters, Djokovic returned to the tour for the Rome Masters 1000 and looked down and out in his quarter-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas but came back to win in dramatic fashion, before eventually losing a tight final to now ten-time champion at Rome, Rafa Nadal.
At the time of writing this article, the Serb has qualified for the finals of the ATP 250 in Belgrade (the second one of its kind this summer) and has mentioned that he is happy with the form he is in ahead of Roland Garros next week.
In the same half of the draw as Nadal and Federer, the world number one will look to get some quick work in the early rounds as the challenges will mount going into week two, with Djokovic looking to close the gap with Nadal and Federer to one title, in the major count run.

Poor Clay Season For Sandgren
American Tennis Sandgren is a two-time Aussie Open quarter-finalist and has made the final 16 at Wimbledon, but is yet to meet with much success on the slower clay courts.
It was not the best of starts to the season for the American with Sandgren having won just two rounds before clay- the opener at the ATP Melbourne 250 at the start of the year and another one at the Miami Open against the 100th-ranked Pedro Martinez.
His clay season included participation at Barcelona, Munich, Madrid and Rome where he only qualified for Munich and was eliminated in the first round. Sandgren did better with qualifying at both Geneva and Belgrade, but lost in the second round of both.
The American is well aware of his limitations on clay and a first round against Djokovic at the second major of the year is probably as daunting as it gets currently, barring facing Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros
Djokovic v Sandgren Prediction and Tip
Djokovic comes to Roland Garros in good touch after the week in Belgrade, and hungry for the one major that he has not dominated the way he would have liked. Sandgren is not as an easy opponent on faster surfaces, but it is unlikely that he will provide much of a challenge on clay.
Expect a straight sets win for the world number one.
