Clara Tauson v Ekaterine Gorgodze Head to Head
While these two players have never faced off at the highest level before this, they did meet once on the ITF circuit last year. Tauson had won that qualifier at an indoor hard court in straight sets.

After getting knocked out in the first round of the Bogota Open, her first tournament on clay for the season, Tauson looked to have found some rhythm in Charleston.
Starting out as a favourite against both, Ludmilla Samsonova and Ajla Tomljanovic, she carved out easy, straight-set wins over them. A left knee injury, however, followed soon after in her quarterfinal against Maria Serrano Osorio, following which Tauson had to retire from her match.
Following this, first round exits at the Saint-Malo ITF competition and the Parma Open have meant Tauson will need to recover from the sudden slump she finds herself in.
A lot could depend on how her fitness holds up because before getting to that stage, Tauson had shown she belonged to this stage with a WTA title win in Lyon. As a qualifier in that indoor hard court competition, Tauson had defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova, Camila Giorgi and Paula Badosa to clinch the trophy without dropping a set.

Gorgodze Recovering from Underwhelming Start
The 222nd-ranked Gorgodze is a clay court specialist but for her to have lost seven matches in a row to start things off this year wouldn’t have gone down too well with her. Which is why a turnaround on clay was much needed and seems to have happened too.
She made the semifinal of an ITF event, her first on dirt for the season, and then reached the quarterfinal of another.
And here at Roland-Garros, she had started off as the second favourite in two of her three qualifying rounds and still clinched a place in the main draw, making it her first ever appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam.
Can Gorgodze push on with the surprises?

On paper this is an easy battle with Tauson starting out 3/10 to win this but it won’t get that easy given her own form. We reckon her Georgian opponent will be able to take this the distance, into a third set.
