Collins Kick-Starts Clay ‘Swing’

Collins has been out of action since the end of the Miami Open because of an endometeriosis surgery. In Miami, she had reached the second round but gotten knocked out by Veronika Kudermetova but hasn’t played since, which means with no practice on clay, the American will kick-start her campaign on clay directly at Roland-Garros.

Clay isn’t much of a bugbear for Collins though, not as much as it is for some other players on the circuit. Last season, in fact, Collins had surprised a few with her showing at the French Open with a stunning display of tennis.

Overcoming Clara Tauson, Garbine Muguruza and Ons Jabeur, Collins had stormed into the quarterfinal of the competition and that performance should give her oodles of confidence coming into this one.

Her only problem would be the surgery she had had to endure for her illness. Has she recovered in time enough to be at her full match fitness or will she need some time to get going?

Wang Aiming for Second Win of the Season

It was day one of the season for Wang, and she had fought hard to overcome Arantxa Rus in the first round in Abu Dhabi. As it turned out, that has remained her only win in main draws of tournaments this year.

She has featured in six WTA competitions since then and qualified for the main draw at four of them but never made it past the first round.

What makes things worse for the 20-year-old is her performances on the ITF circuit haven’t been very rewarding either. In fact they have been worse, with four successive defeats and no wins spread across the four tournaments she has featured in.

Making it to the main draw at the French Open this year, it will be her debut and it comes against a player who would be rusty. Can Wang take advantage of that?

Collins v Wang Prediction and Tip

Collins is a favourite but only just thanks to her fitness-related hiatus from the sport. Still backing her to win this against a struggling opponent.
