The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Gauff, a Player to Watch Out in Paris

Coco Cori Gauff has had a meteoric rise on the WTA Tour ever since her breakthrough spell in late 2019. The 17-year-old is currently World No. 25 – her career-high singles ranking and by the looks of it, she is set to move up even higher.

Her preparations for the French Open couldn’t have gone on a better note – she won the singles and doubles trophies at WTA 250 event in Parma just last week, beating Qiang Wang in the final. For doubles, she paired up with her usual doubles partner Caty McNally to win her third title on the circuit.

Even before that trailblazing run, Gauff has been taking the tour by storm in  2021 – she was a semifinalist in the Italian Open earlier in May where she defeated big guns like Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, and Ashleigh Barty.

Gauff has had similar runs in the Adelaide International and WTA Dubai, all of which takes her total win-loss tally to 23-9.

Krunic Looking to Cap on her Doubles Success

Just like Gauff, the 28-year-old Krunic has had a pretty decent run on clay this season. She is coming in fresh after winning the Serbia Open doubles with Nina Stojanovic after which, she entered the French Open qualifiers.

Krunic breezed through the qualifiers to set up the first-round clash with Gauff. It is also the Serbian’s first-such appearance at this stage of the tournament since 2019 – back then, she went as far as round two.

Even though Krunic has been active on the tour this season, most of her runs have ended right within the qualifying rounds. She has also alternated between the WTA and ITF events but hasn’t got a lot to show for it either.

She is currently ranked in the early 200s and hasn’t really made a dent on the singles circuit. On the doubles, however, she has had some luck and it is exactly that pedigree which Krunic will look to exploit in this first-round game.

Gauff v Krunic Prediction and Tip

Gauff is more than likely to win this game – it is just a matter of how she does it. She is in a ruthless form and is soaring high on confidence after racking up wins against top players.

Expect her to sail comfortably into the next round.
