Van Uytvanck 2-6 in 2021
2015 French Open quarterfinalist, Alison Van Uytvanck comes to Paris with a 2-6 overall record in 2021, which includes a qualifying round defeat to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in Madrid and a first-round defeat to the same opponent at the WTA 125 in Saint-Malo.
The Belgian is participating in her seventh French Open, and has been knocked out in the first round only twice from her six previous appearances.
A winner of four WTA titles, Van Uytvanck’s best performance at Roland Garros came in 2015, one year after she had made her debut at the Paris major. She defeated Schmiedlova, Zarina Diyas, Kristina Mladenovic and Cristina-Andrea Mitu in the first four rounds to advance to her only major quarterfinal, which she lost to Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets.
Last year, Van Uytvanck rallied to defeat Rebecca Peterson in the first round, but lost to Irina Maria Bara in the second round. Van Uytvanck was trailing Bara 1-6, 0-4 when she pulled out of the contest with an injury.
This year, Van Uytvanck’s two wins came against Hsieh Su-Wei at the Yarra Valley Classic and Clara Burel in the first round of the Australian Open. Garbine Muguruza and Yulia Putintseva handed her second-round defeats in the two tournaments respectively.
Most recently, Van Uytvanck fell to Anna Konjuh in the opening round of the Serbia Open and to Harmony Tan in the Round of 32 in Strasbourg.

Trevisan Also in Miserable Form
Facing Van Uytvanck in the first round will be Italy’s Martina Trevisan, who is 0-8 in the main draws this year.
The 27-year-old Italian had ended the 2020 season with a stunning run to the quarterfinals of the French Open on her main draw debut. Coming through the qualifiers, Trevisan ousted Camila Giorgi, Cori Gauff, Maria Sakkari and Kiki Bertens in the first four rounds before falling to Iga Swiatek in her first major quarterfinal.
The left-handed Trevisan, who has nine ITF titles, reached a career-high ranking of 83 last year. But a disappointing 2021 season has seen her go down the rankings once again.
The Italian lost to Yulia Putintseva in Abu Dhabi, Andrea Petkovic at the Gippsland Trophy, Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Australian Open, Caroline Garcia in Dubai, Nina Stojanovic in Monterrey, Ons Jabeur in Charleston, Aliona Bolsova in Saint-Malo and Yaroslava Shvedova in Rome.
Van Uytvanck v Trevisan Prediction and Tip
Both players have struggled throughout the season so far and both will be desperate to win their opening round match. However, since Van Uytvanck is far more experienced, has played and won more Grand Slam matches and has also won two main draw matches this year, she will be the favourite to go through.
