Danielle Collins v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two at the WTA level with Kalinina having won that Houston Open match on hard court in three sets. Incidentally they had also faced off on clay before this at the ITF level and Kalinina had clinched that one too in 2017.

Collins Returns with a Win
Collins had been out of action as she recovered from an endometeriosis surgery but made a winning return to the game with a three-set win over Xiyu Wang.
The American, who is now 50th in the world, carved out a hard-fought but satisfying 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win in two hours and 18 minutes to seal her second round berth.
Playing her first match on clay since her quarterfinal appearance at previous year’s French Open, Collins was quick off the blocks as she broke her Chinese opponent twice to take a 4-0 lead. Soon after she finished off the set to get into a lead.
And when she went 40-0 up on Wang’s serve in the very first game, it looked like the match was headed just one way. Wang fought back to hold, saved another break-point in the seventh game before breaking Collins as she served to stay in the set.
The decider had a similar start to the second, with Wang having to save a few break-points in the first and third games but this time around Collins broke her in the fifth. No further breaking opportunities came to either player except when Wang had a chance in the 10th game while Collins served for the match.
Collins saved that one and served it out to set up a meeting with a player who has never been in the top 100.

Kalinina Cruises Past Kerber
We had an inkling that despite being the favourite for their first round match, Angelique Kerber wouldn’t have it easy. What we didn’t expect was for Kerber to go down and go down in a hurry with Kalinina registering an easy straight-set win over the former Grand Slam winner.
Kalinina looked to have come out knowing Kerber’s record on clay hasn’t been the best, with the latter having lost four of her previous five opening round matches at Roland-Garros.
The qualifier, who hadn’t dropped a set to get to the main draw, carved out a 6-2, 6-4 win in an hour and 28 minutes to convert her first main draw appearance at Roland-Garros into a win.
Kalinina broke Kerber three times in the first set to race off to a 5-0 lead, lost her serve once before closing it out. The pattern looked to be repeating in the second as well, when the 139th-ranked player romped ahead with three breaks of serves, but then dropped her own twice before finally serving out the match.
Can she now test Collins in a similar manner?
Collins v Kalinina Prediction and Tip
Collins showed traces of rustiness and that was very expected. She has two days of rest for her aching bones and muscles after playing in her first match in more than two months and will be our pick against Kalinina despite having 11/10 odds for her.
Tip: Collins to win: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
