Elena Rybakina v Nao Hibino Head to Head
In their only main draw meeting in Strasbourg last year, Rybakina was a straight-set winner to take her into the final. They had also faced off in a qualifier at the French Open in 2019 which Rybakina won again.

Rybakina Knocks Out Wild Card Jacquemot
Elena Rybakina produced a performance close to her vintage best to knock out French wild card Elsa Jacquemot. The World No. 496 took a shock lead when she broke the seemingly unbreakable serve of Rybakina midway through the opening set.
But the Kazakh’s response was instantaneous. She broke straight back in the next game and held for a 5-4 lead. Jacquemot, under immense pressure to stay in the set got tight and was broken again to hand the set to the number 21 seed.
Having taken a one-set lead, Rybakina was playing without any handcuffs. She did not lose a single point behind her first serve in the second set (10/10), and even for a player of her stature, she found success at the net – winning eight out of 11 points.
While much tougher tests lie ahead for the towering 21-year-old, there are a lot of pleasing aspects from this match to take into Wednesday’s second-round match. Rybakina fired 30 winners in total, a key metric of just how aggressive she was from the back of the court.

Hibino Shocks Serbia’s Stojanovic
Nao Hibino was a massive 2/1 to pull off the upset against the 87th-ranked Nina Stojanovic. Neither player had won a main draw match at tour-level this season, but Stojanovic was a proven clay courter, having won almost half of her ITF titles on the surface.
The match began just like many had envisaged, with both players looking rusty. They exchanged breaks early on before they settled. A tiebreak would be needed to decide the set, and unsurprisingly, it was Japan’s World No. 82 who looked the more composed of the two.
Hibino raced into a 4-1 lead in the breaker, and although she coughed up a few errors, she held on. Stojanovic who was playing on the back foot at the start of the second set was put under pressure in each of her service games. She secured three service breaks to seal the second set and the match, 7-6, 6-2.
Rybakina v Hibino Prediction and Tip
A third-round spot will be up for grabs for both these two players who have never scaled past the second round before. Rybakina is the more accomplished of these two players, but Hibino can be a nightmare for opponents who struggle to find their rhythm. Still, if Rybakina brings her A-game, she is likely to overpower the Japanese.
