Ricardas Berankis v James Duckworth Head to Head
There is no previous history between Berankis and Duckworth at tour level.

Berankis Stuns Home Favorite Humbert
On Court Simonne Mathieu, the crowd offered a helping hand to uproot Ugo Humbert out of a hole. But it seemed the Frenchman had dug himself so deep, and found no room to manoeuvre.
Berankis had established a two-set lead by the time Humbert saw some light. He gave himself hope of mounting an unlikely comeback, but the the Lithuanian was only conserving his energy for one last dash.
Berankis had been 1-7 in his Roland Garros career before this year, but has now doubled that tally. He won in four sets, 6-4 6-4 2-6 6-4 in just over three hours.
The Lithuanian’s win by the numbers was quite astonishing. He saved a whopping 15 out of 19 breakpoints, withstood 14 aces from the French lefty and won the points that mattered. Humbert has had a broadly disppointing first half of the season in which he has struggled to replicate the thrills of his 2020 season.
The World No. 93 Berankis will now have a chance to equal his career-best appearance at a Major when he takes on Australia’s James Duckworth.

Maiden Roland Garros Win for Duckworth
What a time to win your first claycourt match of the season. In fact James Duckworth had not tasted success on the surface in any main draw event for almost two years (the last match win on clay coming at the Baotou Challenger in 2019 when he won the title).
Duckworth who is not known for his claycourt prowess, defied the odds to upset the World No. 82 Salvatore Caruso of Italy in first round to end his winless streak at the French Open. The Aussie had never won a match in five previous tries in the main draw in Paris.
But Duckworth had the measure of the Italian on Court 12. He broke in the 10th game of the first set to win it. Then he collapsed in the second set despite at one point holding a 2-0 lead. He barely won any second serve points (4/15) as Caruso levelled things up.
The otucome of the match hinged on the third set tiebreaker which was tense and nervewracking. Duckworth won it with a single minibreak and Caruso did not recover from the mental breakdown. And the Australian World No. 101 easily swept the fourth set.
Berankis v Duckworth Prediction and Tip
This should be a fun battle and both players will relish a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reach the third round. There is no doubt that Berankis has fared better on the clay in the past few weeks, highlighted by close defeats to the likes of Federico Delbonis and Ramos Vinolas.
The Lithuanian is also a better returner and came out on top against a serving behemoth of Humbert’s caliber. He should fancy his chances against The Duck.
