Daria Kasatkina v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the Madrid Open of 2018 where Kasatkina had run away a straight-set winner in the second round.

Kasatkina Demolishes Bencic

She wasn’t the favourite going into her second round match but Kasatkina took full toll of her opponent’s lack of control as she came away a straight-set winner.

The Russian registered a 6-2, 6-2 win in an hour and 18 minutes, hitting 27 winners to her 14 unforced errors, but more importantly never facing a break-point in the encounter.

Kasatkina broke Bencic early in the opening set, going on to hold and take a 3-1 lead and in the absence of the Swiss player finding a way back on her opponent’s serves, the Russian just rolled away to an opening set victory.

The same script repeated itself in the second set, as Kasatkina broke in the third and the fifth games and finished off the match off her very first match-point.

Earlier, Kasatkina had struggled to get past Misaki Doi in her opener, needing three sets to come through despite being 1/7 to win it. She could face her first real challenge of the tournament now.

Cirstea Continues to Win on Clay

Already having doubled her WTA tournament win count this season with a clay court competition victory in Istanbul and nearly added another in Strasbourg, Cirstea continued with her winning ways in round two at Roland-Garros.

The Romanian, who had routed the seeded Johanna Konta in round one, registered a hard-fought, three-set win over the 2020 French Open quarterfinalist Martina Trevisan.

In a match lasting two hours and 38 minutes, Cirstea came through 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to seal her third round berth, her best performance at Roland-Garros since 2014. if she wins this one, it would be her maiden fourth round appearance at this competition since 2010.

Interestingly, both players got 13 break-points to work with and broke their opponents seven times. It was Cirstea’s ability to play the bigger moments that helped her edge out Trevisan.

Can she now carry her form, a 10-2 win-loss record on clay this season, forward with a win over Kasatkina?

Kasatkina v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

This could get to be a close one but one where Cirstea starts off a favourite given all that’s gone her way this season. Might not be an easy straight-setter though, three sets or a close two-setter.
