Victoria Azarenka v Madison Keys Head to Head

The only previous match between these two players came at the 2018 Miami Open and Azarenka had won that one in straight sets.

Azarenka Tames Tauson in Straight Sets

It might have ended up being a straight-set win for Azarenka but it wasn’t a straightforward one. The Belarusian needed an hour and 50 minutes to come past Clara Tauson in her second round match to make it to her first Roland Garros round of 32 since 2015.

Azarenka started off by breaking her Danish opponent and holding after that but soon dropped serve for the score to level at 2-2. The rest of the set went on serve till Azarenka’s experience shone through and she broke Tauson in the 11th game before clinching the set off her second set-point.

In the second, Azarenka began the way she had in the opening set with a break of serve but saw her own serve getting broken the very next game. The same sequence repeats in the seventh and eighth games of the set before Azarenka moved decisively to break her opponent for the third time and hold serve off the next game to clinch the encounter.

This follows a difficult opening encounter against Svetlana Kuznetsova in which Azarenka had needed three sets to come through.

Is the Tide Turning for Keys

Before coming into this competition Keys had won just three of her nine matches at the highest level and just one on clay. With no form and probably even rusty on clay, not too many expected her to go too far in this competition despite having made the quarterfinal at Roland-Garros twice before this.

Keys seems to have had other ideas.

After needing three sets against Oceane Dodin in her opener, Keys set up a 6-1, 7-5 rout of Leylah Fernandez in the second march into the round of 32.

The match which lasted just over an hour and a half saw Keys race off to a 3-0 lead in the first set and cracked a decisive break in the sixth game to ensure there would be no fighting back there.

The second set was more keenly fought despite an early break for Keys again as Fernandez broke back and then repeated the exchange to take it to 5-5 after saving three match-points.

Unfortunately for her, she couldn’t hold serve in the very next game and this time around there was no stopping Keys who claimed the encounter off her sixth match-point.

Azarenka v Keys Prediction and Tip

There is no surprise to see Azarenka start off as a favourite at 8/11 but Keys could put up a decent showing in a match between two players who have had different issues. Azarenka’s is fitness, Keys is struggling for form.

Expect a tight battle.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
