Paula Badosa v Ana Bogdan Head to Head

Their only previous meeting went in favour of Bogdan but it hadn’t come on the WTA tour. It was a match on the clay courts of the Sao Paulo ITF competition way back in 2016.

Badosa Juggernaut Refuses to Stop

It had been a straight-set win for Badosa in her first round match against Lauren Davis but at least in the second set the American had managed to push her a little. There were no shenanigans from Danka Kovinic in her second round match encounter with Badosa, who continued to dominate the world of tennis.

Badosa was on court for a mere 53 minutes as she stalled Kovinic 6-2, 6-0 to move into the third round at Roland Garros for the second year in running. Last year she had, incidentally, done one better than that.

It was Badosa who started off breezily with two breaks of serves and then while she got broken once, there wasn’t much more Kovinic could do to test her opponent. The Spaniard also slapped 16 winners to her six unforced errors, to her opponent’s nine and 18 respectively.

With this win Badosa now has a 15-2 win-loss record on clay court surfaces this season, a title and two semifinals to boot before this. And a 16th win looks to be closing in.

Bogdan Biggest Beneficiary from Osaka-French Open Spat

It was never supposed to end like this for Naomi Osaka. Sure she wasn’t quite the favourite to win this title but the desire to go deep was always there.

Instead Osaka is now on her flight back home after getting into a bit of a spat with the Grand Slam authorities around the world and withdrawing from the French Open this year.

What that has meant is Bogdan moves to the third round at the French Open for the first time and without really lifting her racquet. Bogdan had earlier dropped only four games in the passing through of Elisbetta Cocciaretto, following on from a quarterfinal appearance in Istanbul.

She is now faced with a very tricky opponent given Badosa’s form and Bogdan will hope to put up some kind of a push.

Badosa v Bogdan Prediction and Tip

Badosa is 1/5 to win this and 3/4 to do that in straight sets. Backing another ripper of a performance from Badosa here.
