Humbert Hoping to Leave Clay Behind

It has never been his favourite surface but this year was particularly severe on Humbert on clay. He played in six tournaments on that surface and won just one match, while falling to the likes of Ricardas Berankis and Yoshihito Nishioka at different times.

What’s interesting to note is the 22-year-old has had just one full season on grass before this and that had come in 2019. All of his 14 matches on this surface came in that season and saw him reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Later he was a losing semifinalist at Newport Open as well to end the grass swing.

Unfortunately for him – and others around the world – the pandemic hit last year which meant no matches were played on grass and Humbert will now hope he can restart things on grass from where he had left them off.

With the kind of form he brings into the grass swing, looks like a tough one though.

Fucsovics with Middling Clay Swing

Having reached the final at the Rotterdam Open after having started out as a qualifier, Fucosvics then stormed into the quarterfinal at Dubai soon after to signal a strong hard court swing in the first quarter of the season.

In the second quarter, however, things haven’t quite gone his way and that has been due to his performances on clay.

Back to back opening defeats at Monte-Carlo and Madrid Masters 1000 tournaments were followed by three tournaments at which Fucsovics registered opening round wins before losing in the second.

And with his overall record on grass spread across 10 years and across Futures, Challengers and qualifiers at the highest level standing at 19-16, it does seem like things could get tough for him here despite facing an out of form opponent.

Humbert v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between the two players with Fucsovics just a slight favourite at 4/5 to win this. Going with him given his greater overall experience on grass surfaces.
