Jordan Thompson v Guido Pella Head to Head

A switch to grass couldn’t have come any time sooner for Thompson. After having begun the season on a strong note at the Great Ocean Road Open with a quarterfinal appearance, the Aussie has fallen away and lost control of proceedings.
So much so, he enters this competition on the back of five successive defeats, all of which came on clay. His form was so abysmal, Thompson started off at 6/1 odds to win his opening round match against the unseeded Jaume Munar at the French Open opener last week.
Other than those three wins in Melbourne, Thompson has also won just three other matches spread across three different tournaments.
The good news for the 27-year-old Thompson is he has held his own on grass over his career, especially at the lower level. Can he, however, shrug off his issues and break his losing streak though?

Pella’s Poor Run of Form Continues
Since making it as far as the third round at the Australian Open last season, Pella’s wheels have fallen off.
The Argentine has won just six matches of the 22 he has played in this period and he now enters the grass swing, a surface on which he has traditionally neither played a lot, nor won too many. He has a career 8-10 record on grass.
With nothing really going his way and Pella having struggled on this surface in the past too, it would be too much to expect him to show any kind of a form reversal here. What he would like is to show some of the fight that was on display in his loss against Marcos Giron in the second round at Roland-Garros.
Against a player who has himself not been at his best, Pella would think he might just be able to turn his fortunes around.
