Denis Shapovalov v Feliciano Lopez Head to Head
This will be the first time that the World No. 14 Shapovalov will meet the World No. 62 Lopez.

Shapovalov Returns from Injury
2016 boys’ singles champion at Wimbledon, Denis Shapovalov hasn’t had much success on grass at the senior level. The 22-year-old is 3-9 on the surface over his young career, but he will like to change that soon and start with a successful run in Stuttgart, where he begins his campaign on Thursday in the Round of 16.
Seeded No. 1 in the tournament, Shapovalov, who received a first-round bye, is coming off a shoulder injury, which forced him to pull out of the French Open after a 7-5 clay season that included a runner-up finish to Casper Ruud in Geneva just before the start of the Paris major.
Overall, the Canadian left-hander is 14-11 this year. In addition to the Geneva final, some of his other significant performances this year include a run to the semifinals in Dubai, where he lost to Lloyd Harris and a third round finish at the Australian Open, where he fell to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The World No. 14 is yet to win in Stuttgart. In 2018, he was beaten by India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the first round, while in 2019, he lost in the opening round to Jean-Lennard Struff.
But he has come a long way since that defeat, winning his first career title in Stockholm; reaching the final of an ATP Masters event in Paris and making it to the quarterfinals of Grand Slam for the first time in his career, after he reached the last eight at the U.S. Open last year.

Lopez Eases Into the Second Round
Facing Shapovalov will be 39-year-old Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who eased into the second round with a straight sets win over Australia’s Alexei Popyrin.
Winning 82% points on first serve and 60% on second serve, Lopez wrapped up the match in 71 minutes with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. The lefty converted 3 of 9 break points and faced just one in the match, which was converted by the Aussie.
A solid grass court player, four of Lopez’s seven ATP titles have come on the surface. He won two titles in Eastbourne in 2013 and 2014 and two at Queen’s Club in 2017 and 2019.
He was also a finalist in Stuttgart in 2017, but lost to Lucas Pouille in the title clash. The latter also defeated him in the last edition in 2019, wining the first-round contest in three sets.
Overall, Lopez is 5-9 in 2021, and has struggled to win two matches in a row in most of the tournaments this season. The only time he did it this year was at the Australian Open, where he beat Li Tu and Lorenzo Sonego to reach the third round before falling to Andrey Rublev.
Shapovalov v Lopez Prediction and Tip
Lopez has had a lot of success on grass, while Shapovalov is yet to find his feet on the surface. The latter is also coming off an injury and it will be interesting to see how he goes. Lopez may sense an opportunity of an upset though. Close contest in the offing.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
