Denis Shapovalov v Marin Cilic Head to Head
There have been four previous matches between these two players and Shapovalov leads 3-1 on head to head. Cilic had won their first ever match in 2018 in Basel before Shapovalov crunched past him on three separate occasions at Indian Wells and Marseille in 2019 and the Cincinnati Open last year.

Cilic Blasts Basilashvili Off
It took Cilic just 59 minutes to get past Nikoloz Basilashvili to move into the quarterfinal in Stuttgart, defeating the Georgian 6-3, 6-2.
The Croat blasted 19 aces and broke his opponent three times in the entire matches but at the same time faced no break-points in the entire encounter.
Cilic, who had usurped Rudolf Molleker in his first round encounter, missed three chances to get past Basilashvili’s serve in the second game but broke him the very next game. He grabbed the set soon after by holding to love in the ninth game.
He broke his opponent in the third game of the second set again and a demoralised Basilashvili then dropped another serve in the seventh game to capitulate easily.
Interestingly, Cilic’s last title win had come on grass at the Queen’s Club competition in 2018 and the manner in which he has started here gives him a solid chance to go deeper than this.

Shapovalov Scrapes Past Lopez
After getting a first round bye, it wasn’t the easiest passage through to the quarterfinals of the competition for Shapovalov as he met Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16.
The Canadian player needed two hours and seven minutes to register a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-3 win in a match spread across two days because of inclement weather.
Life back on grass looked easy for Shapovalov as he broke his opponent twice early in the first set but Lopez showed much more resistance in the second set as he held on without facing a break-point.
Taken to a tie-breaker, Shapovalov seemed to have lost his focus as Lopez grabbed a 3-0 lead and complete an easy win to level the proceedings.
The match resumed on Friday with Lopez saving three break-points in the second game but unable to do so in the eighth. Shapovalov served it out in the next game to clinch the quarterfinal berth.
Shapovalov v Cilic Prediction and Tip
Shapovalov is coming off his first win on grass since 2018 and it will be interesting to see how he holds up against a solid player on this surface. Backing Cilic to win at least one set.
