Felix Auger-Aliassime v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

There has been just one previous meeting between the 20th-ranked Hurkacz and Auger-Aliassime, who is ranked 21st in the world. That came at the 2019 Miami Masters and Auger-Aliassime won that third round match in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime Kick-Starts with Stuttgart Final

At the time of writing, Auger-Aliassime is still awaiting to get to court for his final of the Stuttgart Open and while that performance would have pleased him no end, there is one bother.

The Canadian, who had broken into the top 20, had made it to seven previous finals but the issue for Auger-Aliassime was he hadn’t won any. Beyond a certain point, it might have begun to get more of a mental battle for him rather than anything to do with issues around his play.

Which is why coming into this tournament, while the confidence from winning three rounds to get to the final on the grass courts of Stuttgart has been much needed, he would need to lift this title to help him overturn the mind-games the lack of a title could play.

What would have been a delight is all of those three wins came in straight sets, defeating Lloyd Harris, Ugo Humbert and Sam Querrey, also because it had come on the back of an underwhelming clay swing.

A tricky opener awaits him but he would be a favourite.

Hurkacz Stumbles after Miami Stunner

Hurkacz has won two titles this season, both of which came on hard court surfaces. The first, also the first competition of the season, was at Delray Beach, before the Pole lifted the second title in Miami, at ATP 1000 Masters – his best career performance.

And then Hurkacz’s performances tumbled.

In four tournaments played on clay and one more recently on grass, Hurkacz has won just one match. This came at Monte-Carlo following which the world number 20 has lost five in a row including one on grass at Stuttgart to Dominic Stricker.

Hurkacz will hope to shrug that defeat off but up against him is a player who can be expected to push him hard. Can he arrest his slide here?

Auger-Aliassime v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

On paper, this could turn out to be a tight contest but then again given the form shown by the two, it would be Auger-Aliassime who starts off a favourite for us too. Hurkacz could win a set though.
