The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 31-year old Slovenian and the American, who is eight years younger.

Bedene Effectively Playing at Home
Although he represents Slovenia, Bedene is effectively playing at home. He was granted UK citizenship in 2015, and lives in London, but the ITF rejected his application to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup.
Despite that, he does not have a particularly good record on grass – in his seven previous visits to Wimbledon, he has only once been further than the second round.
This is his first grass court event of the year, having just come off the European clay court season, where the best he could manage were third round appearances in Lyon and Sardinia.
At the French Open he beat local favourite Adrian Mannarino in the first round but then was beaten by Diego Schwartzman in straight sets,

Tiafoe Trying to Recover Lost Form
Tiafoe, just a few years ago, was the top ranked American player having broken into the world’s top 30, and reaching two finals in three months in 2018, winning in Delray Beach on a hard court and finishing as runner-up in Estoril on clay.
That same year he reached the third round at Wimbledon, but several years of indifferent form and performances has seen his ranking fall,
However, there have been signs that he may be able to stage a revival, reaching the third round in Delray Beach in January and then going one better in Miami, before losing to Daniil Medvedev.
His ventures on to clay were less successful however and he was beaten in the first round of the French Open by compatriot Steve Johnson, losing a five settle battle despite winning the first to sets.
He entered the same Nottingham tournament as Bedene earlier this week and went one round further, losing eventually to the Russian Evgeny Donskoy in three sets.
Bedene v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip
Bedene is tipped to win this match because effectively he has home advantage against a man still attempting to rediscover his best form.
