Alexander Zverev v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head

Their only meeting was earlier this year in the semi-finals of the Mexican Open in Acapulco and Zverev won in straight sets.

Zverev Looking To Rebound After Paris Semis Exit

World No. 6 Alexander Zverev came to the French Open in Paris confident at the back of two titles this year already, one at the Mexican Open but more relevant being his Masters 1000 win in Madrid defeating the likes of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettinni.

The Frenchman made the most of a favorable draw after a first round hiccup and made a strong run to the semi-finals, not dropping any sets after the first round. Up against Next Gen Stefanos Tsitsipas, Zverev came back from being down two sets to love but lost in the fifth set of an intriguing semi-final.

Disappointing at not getting further as he seeks a first ever major title, Zverev is already in Halle ready to kickstart his grass swing. The German has been runner-up in 2016 and 2017 at Halle and has also defeated 10-time champion Roger Federer here in 2016.  But, he has never been past the fourth round at Wimbledon (that too in 2017) and his last grass swing in 2019 was disappointing with opening round exits at both Stuttgart and at the All-England club.

Zverev will be hoping for a strong season this time around on the grass and hope to get it started with a deep run here in Halle.

Koepfer Hoping For Confident Run on Grass

German Dominik Koepfer broke into the top 50 of the ATP rankings for the first time last month. The left hander is a natural clay courter who exhibits grit and drive regularly on a tennis court. He has been on the tour since the US Open Series of 2017 and has made himself a factor on the tour already.

After an unimpressive start to the season he made a good run at the Mexico Open in Acupulco where he made the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Alexander Zverev.

While he was expected to hit good form on the slower dirt, his clay build-up was not overly impressive.  Opening round losses at Monte Carlo and Barcelona was followed by a second round back in Munich and then in Madrid. It was a better run in Geneva, where he lost in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Casper Ruud.

Koepfer ran into Roger Federer in the third round of the French Open and put up a battle of attrition. Although the Swiss prevailed in four tight sets spanning 3 hours and 28 minutes, it was a phenomenal display of the character and grit of young Koepfer undoubtedly. The German will hope to continue stronger from here and with his best result on grass being the second round of Wimbledon in 2019, he will hope to better his run on grass this time around.

Zverev v Koepfer Prediction and Tip

Koepfer is a promising player and pushed Roger Federer at the French Open last week, but is yet to prove himself on the faster surfaces. Zverev on the other hand has been in good nick and will be looking to make a strong run on the grass.

Expect a straight sets win for Zverev.
