Amanda Anisimova v Alize Cornet Head to Head

The only previous meeting between Anisimova and Cornet came on the grass courts of Mallorca in 2019 and Anisimova had won that match in straight sets.

Slow Start for Anisimova in 2021

Things haven’t look too bright for Anisimova so far this season as she looks to return back to full throttle after having missed major portions of the year because of fitness-related issues.

In fact Anisimova’s first WTA competition of the season came at the WTA Dubai and overall, she has featured in just seven competitions this year.

And unfortunately for the American, other than at Parma Open, Anisimova hasn’t won back to back matches at any of the others.

One might argue her losses have come at the hands of more pedigreed players like Veronika Kudermetova at French Open, Cori Gauff in Parma, Elina Svitolina in Rome and Maria Sakkari in Madrid but that’s where the rub lies – Anisimova will need to start winning matches against the higher-ranked players to carve her way back into the top 20.

Can that resurrection start on grass?

Cornet 8-13 This Season

While Anisimova hasn’t come into her own yet, things have looked even worse for Cornet who has barely had a tournament in which she won more than one round.

In fact that happened only at the Charleston Open where a struggling Cornet struck gold in defeating Bernarda Pera and Elise Mertens in the first couple of rounds there.

Other than that, Cornet’s trajectory has followed the showings from her past two tournaments. At the Strasbourg Open, Cornet reached the second round but then fell in her opener at French Open to Harmony Tan.

And she now walks out on the surface on which Cornet hasn’t done much of note – none of her 13 WTA final appearances have been on grass. In fact, Cornet has never featured even in the semifinal of a grass court tournament across all these years of her career.

Clearly grass isn’t a surface for her.

Anisimova v Cornet Prediction and Tip

Anisimova might not have the best returns since coming back from her fitness woes but has shown enough sparkle to suggest she would be the favourite here.
