Karatsev Hopes To Continue Strong 2021 On Grass As Well

It has been a breakthrough season for Russian Aslan Karatsev who reached the semifinals of the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut, won his maiden ATP title in Dubai and finished runner-up at the Serbia Open. Additionally, he also defeated none other than Novak Djokovic on the clay at the world number one’s backyard in Belgrade, a win that he will cherish for a long time to come.

It was a mixed clay season for the Russian after the Serbia Open, with the run-ups at Madrid and Rome not being as impressive for him. However, he came into the French Open looking good to make the second week but was ousted in the round of 64 by German veteran Philip Kohlschreiber.

Karatsev’s best performance at Wimbledon has been the second round of the qualifiers in 2015 and he will be hoping that he is able to have a better run leading to and at the grass slam in a couple weeks. A less stacked draw at Queen’s club versus Halle will also work to his advantage he will hope.

Qualifier Tabilo Making Grass Debut

Chilean Alejandro Tabilo made his debut on the ATP tour in 2020, a season that was plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic and is still making his professional debut on the grass a result. Ranked number 165 in the world at the moment, Tabilo has only qualified for the Australian 2020 among the majors and holds a 4-5 record in the main draw of the tour thus far in his career.

While unable to qualify for any of the main draws since the Miami Open, the Chilean put up a decent show here at the Queen’s Club in the two rounds of qualifiers. Although he lost to Serbian veteran Victor Troicki, he put up a strong straight sets winning performance against Roberto Marcora of Italy.

Little known Tabilo will be aware that the road only gets more difficult and the test more stern, but will hope to carry momentum from his qualifiers against an opponent who is also relatively less experienced on the grass.

Karatsev v Tabilo Prediction and Tip

While it will feel like a fresh start for both players on the grass, given no grass court tennis for almost two years now, Karatsev is the more experienced and has been in good touch this season overall and should prevail without much trouble.
