Daniil Medvedev v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players at the highest level and Medvedev has won every single time. Struff’s only win over Medvedev came at the Challenger level in 2016. They have never faced off on grass.

Medvedev Satisfied with French Open Showing

For a player who had never won a match on clay at either the Masters or Grand Slam, an end result of 5-3 win-loss spread across three such tournaments amounts to a good season. Medvedev would have been specially pleased with his French Open showing.

At Roland-Garros, the Russian sent out Alexander Bublik, Tommy Paul, Reilly Opelka and Cristian Garin in the first four rounds before he fell to the eventual finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.

Medvedev will now turn his attention to grass where he has been steady but his performances haven’t been as jaw-dropping as hard court surfaces. His grass win-loss ratio stands at 0.6 which is in sharp contrast to the 0.71 on hard court surfaces.

And to add to that, Wimbledon remains the only Grand Slam now after this year’s French Open where he hasn’t even reached fourth round. His next aim would be to change that and he would like to begin with a strong showing here in Halle.

Struff Not at His Best on Grass

While Medvedev, despite not being at his best on grass, still has a win-loss ratio of 0.6 on it. Struff’s struggles on grass are a lot more profound. He has won just 12 of the 32 main draw matches he has played on this surface all career.

The good news for Struff is two-fold.

One, he comes into the grass swing on the back of a fourth round appearance at French Open.

Secondly, the last time he did feature on grass, Struff had two solid performances in main draws of competitions – a semifinal at the Stuttgart Open where he won three successive straight-setters and a third round at Wimbledon.

While taking on Medvedev, the world number two, will be a different cup of tea, Struff will know he can put up a fight if he can combine his confidence from last week and his last few appearances on grass. Will that be enough though?

Medvedev v Struff Prediction and Tip

Medvedev can be expected to blast his way through to a win here, and we expect it to finish off in straight sets. A games handicap of -3.5 for Medvedev (at 5/6 with bet365) also makes for a lot of sense.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
