Frances Tiafoe v Viktor Troicki Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2015 US Open where Troicki had won the first round match in straight sets.

Troicki Registers Shock Win

Coming into the qualifiers of this tournament without a single main draw win, Troicki scraped past Lucas Pouille in his opening qualifying round and then defeated Alejandro Tabilo in the second to make it to the main draw of this competition.

And in what turned out to be a shock result, the Serb held his serve throughout the match to register a 6-4, 6-4 win in an hour and 21 minutes against Lorenzo Soengo.

Sonego was 3/5 odds to clinch this encounter but managed to create just one break-point opportunity in the entire match, frittering it away in the end. Troicki, on the other hand, had six and converted one apiece in both sets.

Troicki, a 35-year-old and a veteran professional, has a career win-loss ratio of 0.51 on grass, the same as his overall record – an indicator he is not foreign playing on this surface. Expecting two wins in two matches, however, could be a tough ask for the 230th-ranked Serb.

Tiafoe Takes Down Bedene in Three

While Tiafoe’s form otherwise hasn’t been the greatest this season, he does enter this match on the back of a solid run on grass.

It started with a Challenger title win in Nottingham and he continued that five-match winning run at this competition in London with a three-set win over Aljaz Bedene.

Tiafoe needed to overcome the loss of the first set and was on court for nearly two hours to register his 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bedene.

In a match where Tiafoe faced six break-points but was broken just once, the American dished out two breaks of serve on his opponent – one in each of the two sets – to pocket the victory.

Enduring 21 aces in the match, Tiafoe stalled his opponent despite winning 26 points on return to his opponent’s 28.

With this win, Tiafoe has already gone one better than his best showing at this tournament. Can he now over-power an opponent who hasn’t played a lot in recent times?

Tiafoe v Troicki Prediction and Tip

Tiafoe is 3/10 favourite to win this one and will hope to finish things off in straight sets, continuing from where he had left off over the last eight days or so.
