Berrettini Into the Semis Without Dropping a Set
World No. 9 Matteo Berrettini knocked out local hope and sixth seed Dan Evans in the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club Championships on Friday to move into the final four stage without dropping a set this week.
Berrettini needed an hour and 40 minutes to defeat the World No. 25 Evans 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The Italian served 13 aces, saved both the break points that he faced in the match and had nine break point chances, but could capitalise on just one of them.
Berrettini, who began the tournament with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) win against compatriot Stefano Travaglia in the first round, had needed an hour and 26 minutes to end Andy Murray’s latest comeback effort in the second round on Thursday. The Italian saved all three break points he faced against Murray to win the contest 6-3, 6-3.
It’s been a pretty good year for the 25-year-old Italian, who won the Serbia Open title by beating Aslan Karatsev. He also finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Madrid Masters and reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
A four-time winner on the tour, Berrettini is 24-6 this year. He has an overall record of 16-5 on grass, where he won the Stuttgart title in 2019.

De Minaur Ends Cilic’s Streak
In the semifinals on Saturday, Berrettini will face Australia’s Alex de Mianur, who rallied from a set down to hand Croatia’s Marin Cilic his first defeat on grass this season.
The Australian withstood 14 aces from the Stuttgart champion, saved six of seven break points and broke his opponent twice from 13 breaking opportunities to win the quarterfinal 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and five minutes.
The 22nd-ranked de Minuar had overcome a first-set deficit in the first round as well, when he fought back to beat Laslo Djere 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. He had a relatively easy second round, easing past compatriot John Millman 6-1, 6-3.
A quarterfinalist in Stuttgart last week, De Minaur improved to 16-12 this year after ending Cilic’s seven-match unbeaten streak.
Seeded fourth in the tournament, De Minaur will now have his sights set on a second final this year. The 22-year-old had also reached the final in the season-opener in Antalya, picking his fourth career title after his opponent Alexander Bublik retired after just two games in the title clash.
Berrettini v De Minaur Prediction and Tip
