Stefano Travaglia v Guido Pella Head to Head
The pair have met once before, on clay in Caltanissetta, Italy in 2015, and Pella won that one in straight sets.

Travaglia’s Successes Have Come on Clay
Travaglia, like most Italian players, was brought up on clay, and that is the surface on which he has enjoyed the overwhelming majority of success on the junior tours – of his 34 singles finals, all but one of them was on clay, and all 23 of his tournament wins.
It was, therefore, something of a surprise when he reached his first senior ATP final to date on hard courts, losing to Jannik Sinner at the Melbourne warm-up event, the Great Ocean Road Open in February this year.
His grass record though is very modest – twice he has qualified only to lose in the main draw, and the last time he appeared there, in 2019, he did not get beyond the first round of qualifying.
Travaglia has not been in the best of form of late, having lost every match since going out to Denis Shapovalov in his home Masters’ event in Rome.
That sequence included a first-round defeat to Alex de Minaur in the French Open and, last week, in hs first match of the year in grass, he was beaten by his compatriot Matteo Berrettini at the same stage at Queen’s In London.

Pella, A Wimbledon Quarter-Finalist in 2019
Pella, like Travaglia, had little familiarity of playing on grass when he was growing-up.
Despite that, he has proved his adaptability on his last two visits to Wimbledon. In 2018, he reached the third round, beating Marin Cilic, a finalist the previous year in the process. And then the following year, the last time the Championship was played, he got to the quarter-finals, beating another former finalist, Kevin Anderson, along the way.
That remains his best ever performance in a Grand Slam event.
Coming into this match, his recent form has been modest, and. although not playing too much in 2021, he has only won two matches all year, both on clay.
The two tournaments he has entered on grass so far have both resulted in first-round defeats – losing to the Australian Jordan Thompson in Stuttgart and the Slovak qualifier Lukas Lacko in Halle last week.
Travaglia v Pella Prediction and Tip
Although both men are primarily regarded as clay court players, Pella, at least, has some previous form on grass, whereas Travaglia has none. If Pella can rediscover the performance levels that made him a Wimbledon quarter-finalist two years ago, he should win easily.
