Dusan Lajovic v Lukas Klein Preview
World number 40 Lajovic will be up against the 254th-ranked Lukas Klein in first round action on Monday and this could go on to become an interesting one.
Lajovic might be a way higher-ranked player but as far as form goes, it has been anything but extraordinary for him. The Serb had made the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this year but since then the results have gone kaput.
As things stand, he enters this tournament on the back of a 8-15 win-loss record having not played a single match on grass.
Klein, on the other hand, might not have won a lot either at the highest level but his record at the Challenger level has been solid in 2021. And the 23-year-old Slovakian, who had also not played on grass before this, comes into this match with wins over Denis Istomin and Pablo Cuevas in his qualifiers.
He could hold the edge in this one.
Lajovic v Klein Tip
Klein to win: 4/6 (bet365)
Sam Querrey v Roberto Carballes Baena Preview
It’s a match between the 63rd-ranked Querrey and Carballes Baena, who is 100th in the world at the moment with the pair having faced off once before this. That came in the 2019 Winston-Salem Open where Querrey had won in straight sets but that was on a hard court surface.
Looking at their form, Querrey has had a mixed start to the grass season.
After having struggled through the rest of the season, the American stormed into the semifinal of the Stuttgart Open but then fell in the first round in Halle last week. To be fair to him, that defeat came at the hands of the eventual winner.
Carballes Baena is a qualifier, having fallen from a season of 80th last year to 100th this season and for that to happen at a time when players aren’t losing too much of their ranking because of the change in the ranking system speaks a lot about his form.
And while a couple of wins in the qualifiers should put him bit of a groove here, Querrey looks like a clear favourite.
Querrey v Carballes Baena Tip
Querrey to win: 3/10 (bet365)

Karen Khachanov v Lucas Pouille Preview
In what could be one of the more interesting match-ups of the day in Mallorca, Khachanov and Pouille will face off in the first round. This will be their fifth meeting and the scoreline so far is 2-2.
What’s interesting to see is both these players have a solid record on grass and despite the obvious small number of tournaments played each season on that suface, their records could point to an interesting match-up. Khachanov has a win-loss ratio of 0.63 on grass but Pouille is only slightly behind at 0.58.
Khachanov’s not had the best season though, and enters this match on the back of a first round loss at Halle last week. Pouille’s three wins in the whole of the year makes it even worse for him, but he does enter this on the back of a couple of qualifying wins which could hold him in a good stead.
Khachanov v Pouille Tip
Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
Feliciano Lopez v Nicola Kuhn Preview
Lopez will be gunning for a third successive second appearance in a grass court competition this season when he faces the 253rd-ranked and fellow Spaniard Kuhn in his opener.
He had earlier made it that far at both, the Stuttgart Open and at the Queen’s Club before losing to Denis Shapovalov at both the competitions. Other than that, the veteran Lopez hasn’t done too much of note this season with the exception of a third round appearance at Australian Open.
Not that his opponent Kuhn has had much to write home about anyway. Even on the Challenger circuit, Kuhn hasn’t won back to back matches this year and while he did get past Pedro Martinez and Radu Albot to make it to the main draw here, Lopez shouldn’t have too much trouble handling him.
Expecting Lopez to down his opponent in straight sets.
Lopez v Kuhn Tip
Lopez to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
