Grass hasn’t been Andreescu’s most preferred surface even if one discounts the fact she has had just two seasons of it and a little more than that of her career anyway.
Because over those two seasons, the Canadian is yet to make it past the first round of a WTA grass court event. She would have given herself a chance to break that duck when she took on Alize Cornet at the German Open last week but to no avail.
Cornet, ranked 63rd in the world, crashed into the Andreescu party with a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win over the Canadian. It was a defeat that had followed an opening round to Tamara Zidansek at French Open which had also come after she had to withdraw from her Strasbourg Open quarterfinal.
In a recent press conference, Andreescu did admit things have been very up and down for her, especially off the court including health and personal issues. She will hope to put all that behind her.

McHale’s Won Just One Main Draw Match This Year
McHale’s record this season has been abysmal and that’s sugar-coating it. She has featured in 14 tournaments before this one in Eastbourne including a couple of ITF level events and she has won just one main draw match.
That’s correct, the former world number 24 has now fallen to 96th in the world thanks to her run this season, but she would be grateful she has made the main draw here.
Because while she was the favourite in her first qualifier against Zhu Lin, she had a difficult second qualifier against Anastasija Sevastova where she was 14/6 going into the match.
McHale then lost the first set, but to then come back from that position to win and make it to the main draw should give her that push the American so needs. Whether it would be enough to take down a Grand Slam winner and a top-10 player is another story altogether.
Andreescu v McHale Prediction and Tip
Andreescu starts as an overwhelming favourite in this one despite having not had the best of records on grass. Expect a straight-set win for the Canadian player here.
