Lucky Loser Seppi Goes Past Nishioka
Seppi is a former winner at this competition in Eastbourne but those were different days. Now 37 years old, Seppi’s ranking has fallen to 95th and wins in main draws of ATP competitions have been few and far between.
He might not have even been playing in this tournament, having lost in the qualifiers but a late withdrawal allowed him to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser. And he took full toll of that to carve out a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Yoshihito Nishioka in an hour and 32 minutes.
Seppi did not have it all going his way especially with a first serve percentage of 49 but what he lacked in his own service, the Italian made up for it by breaking his opponent seven times in the match.
The first set was full of breaks, six of them taking them into a tie-breaker before Seppi took control of the match by running away with the tie-breaker and the second set with ease.
This was only Seppi’s second main draw win of the season and to add to that lean tally, he will need to get past a struggling Ruusuvouri.

Ruusuvuori Failing to Back Solid Last Two Seasons
His performances at various levels, in Challenger competitions and ATP tournaments, over the past two seasons, make him one of the talented players to watch out in the future but Ruusuvuori will be a touch disappointed with his results in 2021.
Sure, there was a fourth round appearance at the Miami Masters but apart from that, Ruusuvuori hasn’t won more than one main draw match in a competition.
In fact since that Miami showing, Ruusuvuori featured in five ATP tournaments and didn’t win a single match in the main draw before this one in Eastbourne.
Here, Ruusuvuori overcame Albert Ramos-Vinolas, a player more known for his clay court skills but against Seppi, things could get a lot more difficult given his own form, his lack of experience on grass (he’s played four career matches across different levels of tennis) and his opponent’s know-how of the surface.
Seppi v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip
While Seppi is 11/10 to win this, we think he has the game to trouble his Finnish opponent here and should clinch back to back wins.
