Belinda Bencic v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

Bencic has won both their previous matches, defeating Golubic in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2016 and in Taipei in 2017. Neither of those matches had needed a third set.

Bencic Powers Past Martic

2015 Eastbourne champion Belinda Bencic began her 2021 campaign in style as she dispatched Croatia’s Petra Martic in just 52 minutes in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

The World No. 11 converted four of four break points and saved the only one that she faced in the match to beat the World No. 29 6-1, 6-3. Bencic also won 83% service points and 49% return points to beat Martic for a second time in two weeks.

The Swiss had beaten the Croat in straight sets in the second round in Berlin last week. Bencic had also defeated Jule Niemeier (in the first round), Ekaterina Alexandrova (in the quarterfinal), and Alize Cornet (in the semifinal) to reach her 12th career final, but couldn’t add to her four titles, going down to Ludmilla Samsonova at the German Cup final.

It was the Swiss player’s fourth final on grass, a surface where she enjoys a 37-16 record.

The 2019 U.S. Open semifinalist has, however, won just one title on grass, back in 2015, when she defeated Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 for the Eastbourne crown.

Her other two finals on grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2015 and Mallorca in 2019, ended in defeats to Camila Giorgi and Sofia Kenin respectively.

The 24-year-old is yet to go past the fourth round at Wimbledon, having reached that stage twice, in 2015 and 2018. In 2019, Bencic was beaten by Alison Riske in the third round.

Overall, Bencic improved to 17-12 in 2021 following Tuesday’s victory.

Golubic Dominates Stosur

World No. 72 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland needed just 75 minutes to dispatch World No. 87 Samantha Stosur in the first round on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Swiss didn’t face a break point in the match but created 14 of them and capitalised on four of those chances to win the contest 6-2, 6-3.

Golubic has featured in four WTA finals, and two of those were earlier this year in Lyon and Monterrey, but she couldn’t add to her 2016 Swiss Open title success, going down to Clara Tauson and Leylah Fernandez respectively.

This is Golubic’s third tournament on grass this year. She was knocked out in the second round in Nottingham and the first round in Birmingham, losing to Alison Van Uytvanck and Heather Watson respectively.

At Eastbourne, she qualified for the main draw with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Britain’s Sara Beth Grey on Saturday and a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Madison Brengle on Sunday.

Bencic v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Bencic is a far more accomplished player and she has got into a good rhythm on grass. Expect her to continue her dominance over Golubic with a straight sets win.
