Siegemund Hoping to Find Form on Home Soil

Siegemund does not have a good record on grass.

She has only qualified for Wimbledon three times, despite turning professional 15 years ago, and the best she has managed is a second round appearance the last time the tournament was played in 2015.

Nor has the German been in good form in 2021, only reaching the third round of an event once, and that was in the Melbourne warm-up tournament, the Gippsland Trophy, back in early February.

This is her first event ion grass this year, having lost in the first round of the French Open to local favourite Caroline Garcia.

The draw though has been kind to her, giving her initially a tie against the lucky loser, Riya Bhatia of India. But she was made to fight by the world 362, losing the first set for the gain or just two games, and then having to come from a  break down to force a tie-break which she eventually won.

In the end, her greater experience showed as she won the third set easily.

She had a much easier time of it in her second round match against compatriot, Tamara Korpatsch, currently world ranked 143.

Siegemund dominated from the start and soon found herself two breaks to the good. Korpatsch recovered one of them, but Siegemund then broke her again to clinch the firsts et.

Another break midway through the second set underlined her dominance and she was able to seal the win with one more break.

Siniakova is the Wimbledon Doubles Champion

In 2018 Siniakova won the doubles with Wimbledon, with partner, Barbora Krejcikova, who became French Open Champion earlier this month. And, the following year, the pair reached the semi-final stage as well.

She has also enjoyed some success in the singles in South-West London, reaching the third round in both 2016 and again in 2016.

Although she has not been able to emulate the achievements of Krejcikova this year, she can derive some satisfaction from her performances on clay, reaching the semi-finals in Parma, and the third round at Roland Garros before losing to the Slovenian Tamara Zidansek.

This is her first grass court event of the year, but she beat Varvara Gracheva of Russia comfortably enough in their first round, defeating the world ranked 88 player in straight sets.

She faced a tougher opponent in her second round match in the form of the number three seed, Jessica Pegula of the USA,  but in the end, she passed the test.

Siniakova was on top in the first set, breaking the American twice to establish the lead.

However, Pegula broke her at the start of the second set, and, although Siniakova got the break back, she was immediately broken once more, meaning that the match headed into a decider.

And, when the Czech woman was broken midway through the third set, things looked bleak for her.

However, she regrouped, was able to break back and, with Pegula serving to stay in the match, forced two match points, the second of which she was able to convert.

Siegemund v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Siniakova will start the clear favourite for this match because of the two, she has much the better form on grass, even though she is the lower ranked player.
